University Hospitals of Derby and Burton NHS Foundation Trust is looking for a Medical Laboratory Assistant / Healthcare Science Assistant to support Biomedical Scientists across a range of laboratory tasks. The role involves handling and processing blood, urine, tissue and other bodily fluid samples as part of a 24/7 shift rota, including nights, weekends and bank holidays on a rotational basis.

Your responsibilities

  • Carry out sample preparation, including identification checks and barcode labelling
  • Input patient data into the laboratory computer system
  • Handle reception duties, responding to face-to-face and telephone enquiries from service users
  • Perform general housekeeping tasks within the laboratory
  • Contribute to quality assurance and audit activities

Your profile

  • GCSE qualification or equivalent in English, Science and Mathematics
  • Strong keyboard and data entry skills
  • Good numeracy, literacy and attention to detail
  • Ability to multi-task and work flexibly, including standing or sitting for extended periods
  • Comfortable responding to work-related enquiries
  • Laboratory or clinical laboratory experience is desirable but not essential
