University Hospitals of Derby and Burton NHS Foundation Trust is looking for a Medical Laboratory Assistant / Healthcare Science Assistant to support Biomedical Scientists across a range of laboratory tasks. The role involves handling and processing blood, urine, tissue and other bodily fluid samples as part of a 24/7 shift rota, including nights, weekends and bank holidays on a rotational basis.
Your responsibilities
- Carry out sample preparation, including identification checks and barcode labelling
- Input patient data into the laboratory computer system
- Handle reception duties, responding to face-to-face and telephone enquiries from service users
- Perform general housekeeping tasks within the laboratory
- Contribute to quality assurance and audit activities
Your profile
- GCSE qualification or equivalent in English, Science and Mathematics
- Strong keyboard and data entry skills
- Good numeracy, literacy and attention to detail
- Ability to multi-task and work flexibly, including standing or sitting for extended periods
- Comfortable responding to work-related enquiries
- Laboratory or clinical laboratory experience is desirable but not essential
